SHORE-BASED
Roles based on land but still fully connected to the yachting and maritime world: refit yards, technical offices, management companies and marinas. From project management to survey, planning and coordination, shore-based careers keep you close to the yachts while offering a more stable, land-based lifestyle.
Naval Architecture
A naval architect designs and develops the shape, structure and performance of ships and yachts. They work on hull forms, stability, weight distribution and overall layout, making sure the vessel is safe, efficient and compliant with regulations. Naval architects often collaborate with engineers, designers and shipyards, moving between 3D design software, calculations and technical documentation. In the superyacht world, they help turn an owner’s concept into a buildable, seaworthy vessel that performs as expected at sea.
Project Management
A project manager in a refit yard or shipyard coordinates everything that happens to a yacht during maintenance, repair or conversion. They are the main point of contact between the client, the captain/crew and the yard teams. Their job is to plan the work, organise various trades (painting, engineering, carpentry, electrics, etc.), control the budget and schedule, and solve problems as they arise. A good project manager understands both the technical aspects of the work and the operational realities of yachts, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on time, and to the expected standard.
